Parker Relays

Saturday's meet is always fun for everyone involved. Some guys were able to swim different distances or events than they're used to. Medals are always a big motivator on Saturdays and the Parker Relays was no different. We medaled in 7 of the 10 events and finished the meet tied for 5th. Overall, the boys swam well.

Craig vs LaFollette

It was a tough for the boys to get themselves really motivated for Friday's meet against Madison LaFollette. Swimming against a team with eight swimmers doesn't give us much competition but the team as a whole still performed well. Many PR's were set.

Cougar Relays 2009

The Cougar Relays was a great time even from the very beginning. The Craig sound system was blaring during warm ups and swimmers were singing along and rockin' with the music.
The parents contributed to and worked the concession stand which was busy during the entire meet.
In addition to the traditional Freestyle, IM, and Medley relays, the Cougars mixed it up with a Backstroke Relay, a Class Relay (a freshman, a sophomore, a junior, and a senior), 2 Crescendo Relays (50-100-150-200 & 50-100-200-500), and a Rocket Relay (8 swimmers each swimming a 50 free). Four meet records were set (400 Medley, 300 Back, 400 Free, and 300 Breast). The Craig breaststroke relay team of Mattox, Strub, and Loftus broke the meet record (3:23.87, set by Marquette University HS in 2008) with a time of 3:16.75.
Coungratulations to all our swimmers and to everyone who helped to make the 2009 Cougar Relays a HUGE SUCCESS!

Craig @ Parker

Craig opened their competitive season with their 10th straight defeat of crosstown rival, Parker. Parker 75, Craig 95.
There was a great turn out of fans and students to support the team. Thanks much and KEEP IT UP!

Conference Meet

The Craig Varsity Boys Swim Team had a great Conference meet on Saturday. The swimmers raised their level of competition to meet the challenge and many achieved personal best times.

The meet started off with one of the most anticipated races of the day, the 200 Medley Relay. Nick Hazecamp (back), Alex Loftus (breast), Sam Waddell (fly), and Matt Enloe (free) had been working hard all season to beat a THIRTY-year-old Craig High School record. The Medley relay time from 1979 was 1:42.36. Both swimmers and parents were ecstatic when Matt hit the wall and all eyes looked to the scoreboard. It read 1:42.25!  They beat the record by .01 of a second!

Nick Hazecamp took second place in the 100 backstroke with his best time of the season. Alex Loftus took 5th in the 100 breaststroke and 6th in the 200 individual medley. His times in both races were personal bests.

In addition to a 5th place in the (above mentioned) medley relay, Nick Strub, Sam Waddell, Tyler Meinders and Matt Enloe finished 5th in the 200 free relay with a season best 1:32.62. The Craig team also took 5th place in the meet.

Congratulations to the entire Craig Swim Team for a great Conference meet. It was great to see all the blue shirts in the bleachers too! Thanks to all those who came to cheer on the Cougars at Conference! We look forward to seeing you all Saturday, February 14th at Sectionals. Ticket sales start at 10:15. All swimmers are encouraged to ride on the bus together. Report to Craig by 9:00, bus leaves at 9:15.

Middleton Relays

Described as the best relay meet in the state, this year's competition was outstanding. Swimming against most of the teams we will see at our Sectional meet, the 200 Medley (1:44.48), 200 Free (1:33.35) and 400 Free (3:29.85) Relays did extremely well.

Craig vs Parker

Often one of the most important meets of the season, this year was no exception. The boys swam with a lot of heart and won the meet convincingly. This victory marks the 9th consecutive win over our Westside rivals. It also means our seniors went undefeated against Parker in their careers. Congrats.
